Volunteering with BELS & Toy Library

Thinking of Volunteering?

We are always looking for volunteers to help in the project or to join our Management Committee. If you’d like to find out what would be involved please get in touch, via email or telephone.

We can then arrange for you to have a chat with one of our Trustees either by calling in for an informal chat and coffee or if a phone call suits you better we can arrange that.

Why Volunteer at BELS & Toy Library?

  • Supporting the local community. You will be directly involved in supplying children with safe, fun educational toys and games to play with thus sparking their development.

  • A great way to learn new skills or develop existing ones.

  • You will be joining a warm, friendly team as well as meeting local families.

  • We will provide full induction training and cover costs for your DBS check and any travelling expenses. There is also plenty of tea and coffee available

Here is Carol one of our volunteers receiving her Trustee of the Year Award 2025 from Keith Hardy Deputy CEO North Tyneside VODA .

In Project Volunteering

  • Greeting members to the Project at our base in Wallsend. Showing new members around explaining how the toy library works. Processing returned toys, checking the toy is clean and complete for the next family.

  • Assisting families who would like to loan baby equipment. Making sure the items are suitable for the child and showing the parent/carer how the item works.

  • Promoting the Project. We often go to local groups to promote the Project. This would involve visiting groups, speaking to parents/carers as well as workers/professionals about the services we provide.

Rebecca volunteers in the Project during term time. Here she is with Gemma and Katherine.
