June Newsletter 2025

Thank you to our Volunteers!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our amazing volunteers for their time and support. We couldn’t run the Project

without their continued commitment.

If you are interested in volunteering get in touch with us at the Project.

The Bernicia Foundation

Earlier this year we received a grant of £10,000 from The Bernicia Foundation. This money is towards core costs and will help staff continue to deliver essential services in the community. The Bernicia Foundation contacted the team and asked if they could do a small piece about the Project for their media pages we were happy to oblige.

We had a lovely time chatting to Jagoda from their marketing team, we also had some photos taken. Here is a nice one of Gemma, Katherine and Rebecca.

Donations  - A Big Thank You

We really appreciate any type of donation that we receive.

The small donations that we receive from our tabletop sale –all the little amounts soon add up.

We would like to say thank you to Marian who hired baby equipment and also took out a 2-toy membership as her grand daughter was visiting from the USA with her baby. They needed equipment for the visit. Marian came into the project prior to hiring and as she came through the doors she said “Wow this is just what I need”. When we collected the equipment at the end of her grand daughters stay Marian chose to donate her return deposit back to the project. What a lovely kind gesture.

Some new toy library members choose to pay more than £7annual membership as they feel that they can give back at this time.

Caroline Jordan the Community Champion for Morrisons in Tynemouth surprised us with some amazing wooden toys from their own Ollie & Grace collection. Such kindness - we are so appreciative that our project was thought of. These toys will be loved and played with by many families.

Small Charity Week

Monday 23rd - Saturday 28th June

Following on from our kind donations, as a small charity ourselves we really appreciate contributions be it monetary or our volunteers time and effort. These help us to keep our much needed project running. If you would like to donate this Small Charity Week we would love if you chose us. Here’s a quick and handy QR code for our donations link.

Our Groups

We run a weekly group at teatime for school aged children at Whitley Bay Islamic Cultural Centre. The children love to have a break from their studies and enjoy playing traditional board games, Lego, drawing and Play doh. It was suggested that we do a baby and toddler group to get the community together. We have ran one session in June which was lovely and will be running another in July. The children had a great time playing with our toys and the parents were able to chat to other parents alongside playing with their children.

Child Safety Week

Each year we promote child safety week which takes place the first week in June. We use the great resources from Child Accident Prevention Trust to share all the valuable information on keeping your family and home safe from dangers. They “give free child safety advice to parents and carers, support professionals working with children and families. Their vision is a world where children lead active healthy lives, safe from serious injury.”

We had leaflets and posters set up on our front desk and the children often chatted with their parents about the various dangers whilst waiting to go into nursery.

You can follow Child Accident Prevention Trust on social media or their website is www.capt.org.uk

Summer Opening Times

We will send out another email soon with all our summer opening times on. Summer is a great time to visit the Toy Library to keep any boredom at bay (on sunny and rainy days). We have lots of indoor and outdoor toys, games and lego and pretend play to keep your children engaged.
